One-time medical grants for children and individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities

  • Grants are provided by the Department of Social Services as one-time medical assistance to persons with neuro-developmental disabilities (autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability) registered under the Disability Identification Survey Program. Persons with disabilities interested in receiving grants can apply on their own behalf or on behalf of their parents / guardians. In case of district level application, you can download it directly from NDD Suraksha Trust head office (14th floor of Padma Life Tower), 115, Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue, Banglamotor Dhaka-1215 at the concerned District Social Service Office and from the website of Trust Office for Dhaka City. . The prescribed application form can be found on the website http://www.nddtrust.gov.bd/ . The last date for submission of application is 30th April from the date of issuance of notification. Incomplete and e-mailed applications are not accepted.


    Types of neuro-developmental disabilities


    Four types of neuro-developmental disabilities have been identified based on differences in physical, mental, intellectual, developmental, sensory impairment and adversity.


    1. Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorders:


    Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex disorder in the normal development of the brain that manifests itself within three to one and a half years after the birth of a child. People with such disabilities usually do not have any problems or defects in their physical constitution and their appearance and shape are similar to other healthy and normal people. They cannot maintain proper contact with the environment and surroundings, such as not being able to master the language, repeating the same or limited actions or behaviors, excessive restlessness, strong tendency to follow the same routine, being introverted, etc. However, in many cases such people specialize in many complex subjects including drawing, singing, computer operation or mathematical solutions.


    2. Down syndrome: A person with a genetic problem that is related to an extra chromosome in the 21st chromosome pair and is characterized as a person with mild to severe mental retardation, poor muscle capacity, short stature and mongoloid face.


    3. Intellectual Disabilities: Limitations in age-appropriate activities, limitations in intellectual activity, such as causal analysis, teaching or problem solving, and day-to-day work skills such as communication, self-care, social skills, health and safety, education, self-management. Anyone with multiple characteristics is considered a person with intellectual disability.


    4. Cerebral palsy: Abnormal movements and body postures are usually seen in such babies due to traumatic brain injury as a result of prolonged labor during childbirth. As a result, he was identified as a person with cerebral palsy.
