Widow and Husband Abuse Women Allowance In the financial year 1998-99, a one-time monthly allowance of Tk. In the financial year 2003-04, this program was assigned from the Ministry of Social Welfare to the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. In order to bring more dynamism in the implementation of the program, the present government again assigned this program to the Ministry of Social Welfare in the financial year 2010-11. The Department of Social Services is successfully implementing this program initiated by the present government. Under this program, allocation has been made for 4381 beneficiaries in Chandpur district in the financial year 2021-22 at the rate of Taka 500 per person per month. After being assigned to the Ministry of Social Welfare, 100% success has been achieved in distributing allowances to widows and husbands. Ensuring greater transparency and accountability in this program and making it universally acceptable All the steps that have been taken for this purpose are to amend the implementation policy formulated by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and make it up-to-date. Apart from this, allowances are being distributed in G2P system (Government to Person) from FY 2020-21.
Aims and Objectives of Widow and Husband Abuse Women Allowance Program
1. Provision of socio-economic development and social security for widows and abused women;
2. Increase their status in the family and society;
3. Strengthening their morale through financial grants;
4. Provide financial assistance to increase medical aid and nutrition
Definition: Widow and Husband Abuse Under the Women Allowance Program - 'Widow' means those whose husband is dead; 'Husband abuse' refers to those who have been divorced by their husbands or for any other reason have not been in contact with their husbands for at least two years.
Candidate Selection Criteria:
(A) Citizenship: The candidate must be a permanent citizen of Bangladesh.
(B) Age: Age must be above 18 (eighteen) years. However, priority should be given to women who are widows and husbands.
(C) Health condition: The person who is physically disabled i.e. completely incapacitated should be given the highest priority.
(D) Socio-economic status: (1) In case of financial condition: The poor, the refugees and the landless should be given priority in order.
(E) Land Ownership: Preference should be given to landless candidates. In this case, if the amount of land of a person other than the homestead is 0.5 acres or less, he will be considered landless.
Eligibility and Terms of Allowance Recipient:
1. Must be a permanent resident of the area concerned;
2. Must have birth registration / national identification number;
3. Preference will be given to elderly, helpless and miserable widows or women who have been abused by their husbands. Those who are destitute, helpless, almost landless, widowed or abused, and who have two children under the age of 18, will get priority in receiving the allowance;
5. Among the poor, the widows and the oppressed, the disabled and the sick will be given priority in receiving allowances;
. The average annual income of the candidate should be less than 12,000 (twelve thousand) rupees;
. Must be selected by the selection committee.
